The wisdom you need to guide your children

In the past, children expected their parents to know everything. It would have been an offence if they had asked them a question and failed to get the right answer. For instance, the Scripture presents Isaac questioning his father when they were on the way to offer a sacrifice. “Isaac said to his father Abraham, ‘Father!’ And he said, ‘Here I am, my son.’ He said, ‘The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a burntoffering?’” (Genesis 22:7). Abraham had been asked to offer his son as a sacrifice to God. Faithfully, he obeyed, but he did not expect his son to interrogate him on the way. To answer his son, Abraham needed wisdom not to scare him before they reached the place of offering the sacrifice. Today, our children have the same need of wanting to understand what we tell them.

The difference with the current generation is that they have access to a lot of information. Unfortunately, they are exposed to information that may contradict our expectations. In such a case, as a parent, you should take time to listen first to what they know and from where they have acquired such knowledge before engaging them. This is where wisdom is required, assuming that your child should think that what you have told him or her is a big mistake. It could be that as a parent, you may not understand how to respond to challenging questions from your children. You are not alone, and it is not a sin. This is a modern challenge for many parents.

Thus, CALISCO aims to provide a safe environment where you can consult on how to respond to your children. The reality is that no one knows everything, yet someone next to you can know something that can satisfy your child’s needs. Let us take this opportunity to learn from each other and build a network of like-minded parents in readiness to give our children the guidance they deserve. CALISCO is there to support you in being a better parent.
