Currently, there is a lot that is attracting people’s attention. If you talked to members of the same family, you would notice that they are divided because of different interests. This did not start with our generation. The Scriptures document an occasion of division during the time ofJoshua; “Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whomyou will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for meand my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). Why did Joshua make adecision that affected only his family? It was clear that he could not control the choices of the people, although Joshua made it clear to the people that he had control over his family.
When the people failed to serve God, he was left to be counted with his family. Could this be the case with us today? What is causing division in families today? Can we stand to be counted with our families for being God fearing? As Joshua chose to serve God with his family, this can be a lesson to us too. We serve God when we attend to the needs of each other in our families. It didn’t happen on the day Joshua proclaimed that they would serve God; rather, it was part of their lifestyle to serve God.
CALISCO advocates for sacrifice in serving family members as one way of serving God. They will not pay us, yet they allow us to be fulfilled by providing our services. Today, let us reflect and see whether our choice to serve God through our family members has made us stand out. CALISCO sees every opportunity in every family to be standouts. This is because every family has different needs. Do not think that your family is the worst. Instead, look for opportunities to work together as a family and emerge as victors. Today we talk of Joshua because of the decision he made during a difficult moment. Let your family be a model tomorrow for what you will choose to do differently today.
